Students have another Math Home Connections to complete tonight and return to school tomorrow! Students are reviewing work on Prime and Composite numbers. We completed a page just like this one (with different numbers) in class!
Book orders are due Friday, September 27. You can follow the link on the scholastic page to place a parent order online. Online orders are beneficial to both families and the classroom. Families get free books for home and more selections online and in turn an online order also will give free books to our classroom. If sending in a paper order, please send checks only (Make payment to Scholastic)!
Students have a Home Connections math page for homework tonight. It is a division story problem page. We reviewed different ways to solve these types of problems in class today and will be continuing to revisit this skill set throughout our year in math class!
Students have their first math homework assignment tonight. This is work that is a continuation from our work today in class. We are working on a new concept to the students, so there may still be some confusion. It will be alright....we are just starting and will be working diligently to help students meet the objectives!!!
This assignment is due the next day, Students brought home their reading log to begin achieving their reading goal for the week.. Tonight students will be bringing home a book bag, books, and a parent letter explaining the reading expectations in the classroom. This letter is also on the Language Arts page on the website!
To help students become in charge of their learning we are working on planning our reading time and analyzing what works and what doesn't as readers. We call this work, My Life as a Reader: My Weekly Progress Towards My Goal. Please let me know if there are any questions. Our first reading log (150 minutes) is due on Friday, Septermber 13. What a wonderful first day of school! I was able to welcome 28 wonderful kids into the classroom. I thought that the kids did a great job and we have a super year ahead of us!
The kids were asked to come to school prepared with a book, a "just right" book, that they have been reading at home. Books are not limited to paper versions- e-books are accepted as well as magazines, technical manuals, newspapers, etc. I am looking to find out what interests the students as readers. Reading logs and the required 150 minutes weekly will go into effect within the next week. A note will be sent home along with a reading log alerting parents to the requirements. |
